What is Streamyx?


Streamyx is the leading internet service provider in Malaysia.It is the principal fixed line internet broadband service provider in Malaysia and is a subsidiary of Malaysia's major telecomunication service provider and public listed company, TM Bhd. Notably TM Net offers its internet DSL(Digital Subscriber Line) broadband internet under the brandname Streamyx.

TM Net was established in 1995 by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (which subsequently transformed into TM Berhad) as part of Malaysia National Broadband Plan.

It was at first deployed on a trial between TMnet and COINS.

The first commercial trial of xDSL by TM was done by a service known as HiS that was deployed collectively with Ericsson in 1999.

The original Streamyx internet broadband service was introduced in 04 2001 at speeds of 384kbps.

In June 2007, Streamyx commences it high speed 4mbpsbroadband service which is currently, is the highest available speed.

10 12 2009, TMnet introduced a new 15MBps fiber optic service under High Speed Broadband (HSBB) and is likely to be introduced by 03 2010.

At the moment the Malaysian internet infrastructure have been determined as not reaching the current criterias as needed by basic web applications such as that of YouTube, Skype and therefore concludes that Malaysia may not eventually reap the benefits of broadband service.On another note, Malaysia's High Speed Broadband Project is set to overcome this challenge.
